The Black “Capitalist” Experiment

The Black “Capitalist” Experiment interrogates the myth of Black exceptionalism and its evolution into Black capitalism. Through imagery and iconography, this work explores how African Americans engage with, aspire to, and attempt to reclaim American ideals. Mocking and evoking images of Black influential figures in a satirical setting, it challenges the notion that liberation can be achieved through inclusion in, or replication of, capitalist structures. Instead, it argues that true liberation requires a radical departure from American values and systems, rather than a seat at their table.
